Several young OSCE trainers visited the Academy

Vushtrri, 08 June 2022 – The Acting Director General of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, Kastriot Jashari, hosted today a delegation of young trainers from the Organization for Safety and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) with a mission in Kosovo. The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted closely with the developments in the Academy and the exchange of experiences between them and the instructors of the Kosovo Police. 

The delegation was headed by Sabrina Salis Acting Head of the Property, Cultural Heritage and Interfaith Dialogue Section. 

The Acting General Director of the Academy Kastriot Jashari, highly appreciating this visit, informed the delegation about the important processes that the Academy has gone through since its establishment until now.

Speaking about the history of the Academy, Director Jashari thanked the Organization for Safety and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) that has supported the Academy in its development since its establishment until today. He said that the OSCE has helped and continues to help the Academy by providing training as well as donating numerous donations.  

"The OSCE has been a partner of the Academy since its establishment.”Without the cooperation with international and local institutions, the Academy would not be where it is today", said Jashari, expressing his readiness to continue and expand the cooperation in order to exchange experiences in the field of order and safety.

Meanwhile, Sabrina Salis, Acting Head of the Property, Cultural Heritage and Interfaith Dialogue Section at the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, expressed her gratitude for the reception. During the meeting Salis highly appreciated the work in the Academy. Making a presentation about the new trainers he accompanied, Salis said that some of them have experience in gender equality; some have established their own NGOs and are active in civil society, etc. Salis said that in 2022 they have decided to make a group of young people to implement human rights projects. "We strongly believe that the youth of Kosovo are the force of human rights," said Salis.

Head of the specialized training section of the Kosovo Police at the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, Major Rrahim Fazliu during the meeting spoke about the general training of the Kosovo Police, basic, advanced and specialized training. During the meeting, Fazliu also informed the delegation about the recruitment procedures for new cadets of the Kosovo Police. 

Whereas, the instructor of the Kosovo Police in the Academy, Sergeant Rushdi Hoxha informed the OSCE delegation about the trainings held for community policing.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Department for Safety and Public Order at the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Edward Anderson, first congratulates the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety for receiving the “Award of Excellence” from the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST ) in the United States. During the meeting, Anderson spoke about the role of the Department of Public Safety and Order in the OSCE and its contribution to peace and public safety.

The importance and contribution of young people for peace and safety in the country was also discussed at the meeting. Finally, the delegation visited the campus of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety
