The Board of the Academy held its regular meeting
Vushtrri, June 29,2020 – The continuation of "New Police officer” professional training online through the distance learning platform E-training, will start on Monday, 06.07.2020, thus, a decision was made at the meeting of the Board held today at the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety.
In this meeting were attending members of the Board of KAPS, respectively the heads of the Public Safety Agencies; General Director of the Kosovo Correctional Service Nehat Thaçi - Chairman of the Board, General Director of the Kosovo Police Rashit Qalaj, General Director of the Agency for Emergency Management Fadil Kodra, General Director of the Academy Ismail Smakiqi, Acting Director General of Kosovo Customs Ibrahim Xhaka, Acting Chief Executive Police Inspectorate of Kosovo, Director of the Directorate of Administration in the Kosovo Probation Service Arsim Tahiri.
In the meeting also have attended the Dean of the Faculty of Public Safety Bejtush Gashi, the Director of the Department for Security and Public Order at the OSCE Mr. Edward T. Anderson, the senior official from this organization Mrs. Shpresa Muharremi and the Directors of the Departments of KAPS and PSA.
After approval of the agenda and the held minutes of the 30th meeting of the Board of KAPS, the General Director of the Academy Mr. Ismail Smakiqi informed the Board members about the activities and actions undertaken by the KAPS during the pandemic period (Covid 19).
Director Smakiqi said that the presentation of the summary report of the activities and actions undertaken by KAPS during the pandemic period (covid 19), the Leadership of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety has done for several reasons:
“For reporting, notifying and informing the responsible institutions, stakeholders and partners of KAPS, creating a special file for special and rare circumstances, such as pandemic (pandemic is a global phenomenon which according to knowledge has appeared once in a century in the years 1720, 1820, 1920 and now in 2020) as well as evidence providing the activities and actions undertaken by KAPS during the pandemic period, the evaluation institutions which shall accredit the Academy; Kosovo Accreditation Agency, the National Qualifications Authority and the International Association of Standards and Training Directors of the United States Law Enforcement (IADLEST), ”said Mr. Smakiqi.

Subsequently, the Board approved the "Annual Work Plan of the Board for 2020". As it is known, during 2020 the Academy and Public Safety Agencies will be prepared for the new national l accreditation by the Kosovo Accreditation Agency and the National Authority for Qualifications and International Accreditation from IADLEST (USA) which will take place in 2021.
For this purpose in the work plan of KAPS Board, among others, it includes the following activities: Supporting the Board of KAPS in implementing the recommendations of National Qualifications Authority and IADSLEST, Reviewing the professional standards for Public Safety Agencies for the purpose of re-validation (including the establishment of a working group to review professional standards for Public Safety Agencies), Reviewing the professional training curricula for Public Security Agencies for the purpose of re-validation and re-accreditation.
In this meeting also was discussed for the strategic orientations of public safety agencies for their needs in the professional development of its officials through higher education, namely the next process of re-accreditation of the Bachelor Study Program in Public Safety.
In addition, Director Smakiqi informed the Board of KAPS, with the activities undertaken by the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, regarding the continuation of the professional training "New Police officer “online through the distance learning platform. The e-training will start on Monday, 06.07.2020. "Continuation of training is the result of close cooperation of those responsible for training of the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety and the Information Technology Division which has enabled the system respectively the MOODLE platform, which is used in the majority of similar International institutions for online learning ", said the director Smakiqi.
At the end of the meeting, the Board approved the quotas for Public Safety Institutions in the basic Bachelor studies for the academic year 2020-2021 at the Faculty of Public Safety at KAPS .
