The OSCE delegation visited the Academy
Vushtrri, November 15, 2016 - General Director of the Academy for Public Safety, Ismail Smakiqi hosted a delegation from the OSCE Audit Committee, chaired by the head, Hayk Karamayan.
Director Smakiqi initially welcomed the participants for the visit, and then he briefed the delegation about the important processes the Academy has passed since the establishment until today. Speaking about the history of the Academy director Smakiqi stressed that the OSCE, based on the assigned mission after the war, "Democratization and Institution Building", in September 1999 began the first basic training for 176 cadets of the Kosovo Police.
OSCE for a long time managed the Police Service School, later Kosovo Center for Public Safety Education and Development, including donations infrastructure, laboratories, uniformed cadets, vehicles, IT equipment (computer, scanner, printer ), police equipment and other agencies, construction of classrooms. The OSCE is a key partner in conducting trainings at the academy.
Director Smakiqi with special emphasis spoke about II Twinning Project of the European Commission, a project implemented by Finland and Estonia that for the purpose of improving education in the sectors of public order and security. In the implementation of these projects OSCE also helped the Academy in organizing workshops that relate to the results of the Twinning Project.
Smakiqi spoke about international cooperation the Academy for Public Safety has with many countries in Europe and beyond and expressed the need to enhance further this cooperation aimed at transferring experience in the field of safety and security.
At the end Smakiqi thanked OSCE for the continuous support provided for the Academy and still continuing through training in the security sector as well as to numerous donations which have made KAPS to educational center providing training for all security agencies safety in the country.
While head of the Audit Committee in the OSCE Hayk Karamayan, stressed that all contributions and support that has given the OSCE for the Academy was justified because the results and successes very positive are seen in this important institution for the training of members of security.
In his speech Ake Fogh director of the Department for Public Order and Security said, "I have served in many missions around the world but my mission in Kosovo is very special and I can say that I am pleased with the progress that is happening in Kosovo, especially in the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety. "
At the end of the visit, the delegation visited the buildings of the Academy and through presentations by the instructors was informed about the practice where the security members are conducting trainings.
