Jessalyn Brogan Walker manager of Hedahay program visited the Academy

Vushtrri, 19 November  2018 –  The Kosovo Academy for Public Safety (KAPS) visited Jessalyn Brogan Walker Hedahay Program Manager in Washington of United States of America and Adrian Shtuni Advisor  to this organization,  they met General Director of Academy Ismail Smakiqi, senior management and with police officers at Academy.

The purpose of the visit is cooperation between the Academy and experts of the Hedahay program in the field of safety specifically in the prevention of violent extremism.
 

General Director of the Academy Ismail Smakiqi informed delegation of the organization with the mission and vision of the Academy. During this meeting, he mentioned the achievements that were realized at the Academy, at the same time also spoke about the challenges ahead in terms of the field of public safety.

    
Director Smakiqi expressed the need for cooperation with international experts and organizations, specifically co-operation on training in the field of preventing violent extremism leading to terrorism, providing assistance in curriculum development and training of trainers.

Also they discussed about the KAPS Strategy for 2019/2022 as Director Smakiqi sad, the Academy is already a centre of excellence in the field of safety and has received local and international accreditation from IADLEST.
 

 Meanwhile, Jessalyn Brogan Walker Manager of the Hedahay Program in the United States of America thanking Director Smakiqi for the hosting and expressed her readiness for cooperation with the Academy and the Kosovo Police. She emphasized in particular the co-operation and the role of community policing as she said the first line of identification, prevention of violent extremism, and the need to understand the phenomenon and mechanisms to prevent it through training and capacity building of existing staff.
 

She stressed that within this they have provided a relevant area of community policing, where, according to her, topics related to extremism should be part of this module.  


"The need for continuity is particularly emphasized in the training mechanisms, which, in the absence of relevant experts, was sought assistance in drafting an all-inclusive curriculum for all actors and at all levels, as well as a training for trainer to ensure continuity in the field of confrontation with phenomena of this nature, "said Director of Training Kastriot Jashari.

Ardian Shtuni representative of Hedayah organization thanked the Academy for the cooperation and ensure that requirements addressed in the required fields will be offered at time and soon will have a product that will meet the needs of stakeholders.  

After the meeting they visit campus of KAPS.
