Some students from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities of Kosovo visited the Academy

Vushtrri, July 05. 2022 – At the Kosovo Academy for Public Security, an informative meeting was held on how young people from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities can be included in public safty institutions in Kosovo, specifically in the Kosovo Police. This visit was organized by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe mission in Kosovo.   

About thirty students from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities participated in this informative meeting.

Major of the Kosovo Police, Faik Krasniqi, informs the young people from the communities in question about the recruitment procedures on how to become part of the Kosovo Police. During this meeting, Major Krasniqi encouraged students from non-majority communities to continue their education.

The deputy  General Director of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety Kastriot Jashari also participated in the meeting. On this occasion, he thanked the OSCE mission in Kosovo for the support in the development of the Academy since its establishment until today. "The OSCE has been a permanent partner of the Academy since its establishment. Without the cooperation of international and local institutions, the Academy would not be where it is today", said Jashari.

Jashari expressed his willingness to continue cooperation with the OSCE in the field of the rule of law, empowering youth in the security sector. 

While the leader of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Michael Davenport, thanked the management of the Kosovo Academy for Public Security and the Kosovo Police for taking this joint and important initiative. Davenport expressed the readiness of the OSCE to continue supporting the inclusion and balanced representation of communities and genders in security institutions. 

Ambassador Michael Davenport and Deputy General Director of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety Kastriot Jashari thanked the students and encouraged them to consider the career paths in the police. 

Young people from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities of Kosovo who were accompanied by Sophie Guesne, Director of the OSCE Regional Center in Mitrovica, Aleksandra Jovanović, Senior Community Officer, and Maja Lehner, Human Rights Officer, visited the campus. Of  Kosovo Academy for Public Security as well as the space for displaying uniforms and other equipment of public security institutions, donation from the OSCE mission.
