General Director of the KAPS, Ismail Smakiqi, has received a letter from the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the US Department of State, Jorgan K. Andrews
Vushtrri, 6 August 2020 - General Director of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety (KAPS), Ismail Smakiqi, has received a letter from the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the US Department of State, Jorgan K. Andrews.
Expressing satisfaction with the visit he payed to KAPS on January 24, 2020 and thanking Director Smakiqi for hospitality, Andrews expressed his satisfaction for the development of professional training of Kosovo Police cadets, which he had the opportunity to observe closely personally during his visit to the Academy.
"I applaud your efforts and recognize how much KAPS directly contributes to Kosovo's independence and stability", he said.
Furthermore, Andrews reconfirms continuation of cooperation of the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement affairs (INL) in particular for KAPS and in general for the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo: “The State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) remains committed to its continued cooperation the Government of Kosovo as it seeks to identify where INL can best leverage U.S. resources to support Kosovo’s institutions ".
At the end of his letter to Director Smakiqi, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Andrews expresses his readiness to support not only KAPS, but also our institutions in general. On this occasion, he said: "I look forward to exploring additional opportunities where INL can assist with your efforts, as we continue to work together to advance our mutual strategic interests in Kosovo".
In addition to cooperation and support in other aspects of common areas of interest, the United States Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) on June 16, 2017 donated to KAPS a sophisticated equipment of Fire Arms Training Simulation (FATS) system, worth of $148,652. Furthermore, ICITAP of the United States Department of Justice, but also directly the US Embassy in Kosovo, has consistently and unstintingly supported KAPS, in order to realize as easily and professionally as possible its mandate to train and educate law enforcement officers throughout the country.
