OSCE Deputy Ambassador Kilian Wahl visited the Academy

Vushtrri, 14 May 2018 - The General Director of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety (KAPS) Ismail Smakiqi, hosted today Mr. Kilian Wahl the Deputy Ambassador of the Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) in Europe mission in the Republic of Kosovo.

The meeting also attended Shpresa Muharemi the OSCE international advisor to the KAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Driton Zabërgja the Director of Mandatory Training in the Kosovo Police, Ritva Vahakoski the Resident Twinning Advisor and associates of the  General Director.


General Director of the Academy Ismail Smakiqi during the meeting presented some of the objectives and priorities that it intends to accomplish during this year. Presenting the achievements of the Academy, Director Smakiqi briefed Deputy Ambassador Wahl about the training, activities and work done at the Academy.

Director Smakiqi thanked the OSCE Mission in Kosovo for the continued and very valuable assistance and support to the Academy in all areas of its overall development. The Deputy Ambassador was also informed about the numerous projects supported by the OSCE in Kosovo, supported projects in various forms such as multiple donations, training for members of public security or law enforcement in Kosovo, different events for the benefit of communities in Kosovo, unreserved support in the overall development of the Academy, etc..

In this case, Director Smakiqi emphasized the current need of the Academy for the next project based on the needs of public security institutions in Kosovo, which is the development of a master study program (MA) in the field of public safety in KAPS. 

For this matter, Director Smakiqi added that from the financial support of the German Embassy in Kosovo, from OSCE support with the German expert, Klaus Welter (PhD) from the German Police University from Munster, a feasibility study was conducted with all local and international stakeholders on the master's degree program in the field of public safety in KAPS and the answer was "Yes". Deputy Ambassador Wahl was also informed that this is the acute need of the Academy that we expect the support of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo

While Deputy Ambassador of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Kilian Wahl, expressed his readiness for continuation of support, and also stated that the Academy is a very important institution in Kosovo.

Deputy Ambassador Wahl, expressing the pleasure of his visit to the Academy, during the meeting thanked Smakiqi for the work he did at the Academy and the great successes that were achieved at the national and international level. Deputy Ambassador Wahl added, among other things, that "I am fascinated with the achievements in KAPS. In the framework of our meetings in the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, we are informed and discussed about the issues and needs of the Academy. It was my pleasure to inform you that we will assist in the building of professional law enforcement capacities in Kosovo, we will support the Academy”

Afterwards, various presentations on KAPS in general, on the current twinning project, on the role and contribution of the Kosovo Police in the framework of training and education in KAPS, as well as the presentation of the Faculty of Public Safety in KAPS. 

At the end of the visit, a short visit to the Academy campus was held.
