The annual conference of INTERPA was held In Qatar
Katar, 06 April 2018 - A delegation from the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety (KAPS), led by General Director Ismail Smakiqi, and composed by Shpend Shabani Director of the Department for Strategic Planning and Legal Affairs and Mr. Avni Istrefi, Head of the Division for External Relations, attended the 7th Annual INTERPA Conference "New Trends in Combating Terrorism and Extremism ”, and at the meeting of the General Council of INTERPA, which was held on 02-04.04.2018 in Doha, Qatar.
This three-day event, the Conference and the Meeting of the General Council of INTERPA was organized by the Qatar Police College (QPC). Representatives from other international associations and organizations that are not members of INTERPA such as the Association of European Police Colleges (AEPC), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), were also present at this event.
The purpose of the conference and the whole event was developed in the sense that all the institutions of INTERPA to bring them together to provide the opportunity to discuss, share experiences, expertise and opinions, as well as to create cross-institutional co-operation opportunities in terms of approaching and combating the phenomenon of terrorism and extremism as a global harm based on law enforcement and focusing on the development and upgrading of education in general, modern training curricula in particular, to combat this phenomenon.
The opening ceremony of the conference was held with the opening speeches by the General Director of Qatar Police College, Dr. Muhamed Abdulla Al-Mehana Al-Merri, and the President of INTERPA Prof. Dr. Yilmaz Çolak. At the opening ceremony and giving great importance to the conference, present was also Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of Qatar and also Chairman of the Supreme Council of Qatar Police College, Sheik Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani.
Within the conference, numerous presentations were held in the framework of the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, organized crime. It was emphasized the need for modernization of tools, curriculum development in harmony with new needs and trends of the right and successful approach to these phenomena as a global harm, by agreeing all on the need to build inter-institutional cooperation, state and global, with emphasis on the modernization of training (curricula) or education in general in the field of law enforcement, in order for law enforcement to be more coherent and vigilant in fighting of the above mentioned phenomena.
In the framework of the development of visits, General Director of the Academy Ismail Smakiqi, together with the leaders of delegations present at the conference had the opportunity to visit and be received by the Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of Qatar as well as Chairman of the Supreme Council of Qatar Police College, Sheik Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani.
During the overall time period of the development of this event, the Academy delegation had the opportunity to hold a series of meetings and discussions in the framework of international cooperation where besides the meetings held with the delegations of institutions that Academy has already long been developing collaborations at various levels, here we emphasize the meetings with Gujarat Forensic Sciences University from India which will be the host of the next INTERPA conference in 2019, and with the delegation of People's Public Security University of the People's Republic of China (PPSUC), in which case they discussed new possibilities of cooperation between our institutions.
Furthermore during the stay in Doha, the Academy delegation had the opportunity to be a participant of some cultural and social activities organized by hosts for conference participants.
