A workshop for Academy Support is being held in Tirana to develop a mentoring and internship program based on the professional program of public safety agencies

Tirana, September 14, 2017 - In support of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), today started the workshop which aims to support the Academy to develop professional training respectively the Handbook of Professional Practice for Public Security.


This workshop is attended by General Director of Kosovo Academy for Public Safety Ismail Smakiqi, Director of OSCE Department of Order and Public Safety with Mission in Kosovo Ake Roghe, Deputy Director of Kosovo Police Dejan Jankovic, ICITAP Senior Advisor, Drita Perzic, Dean of the Faculty of Public Safety Bejtush Gashi, representatives of public security agencies and senior management who are also members of the working group for finalizing this draft.


General Director of Kosovo Academy for Public Safety Ismail Smakiqi, in his opening speech at the workshop, thanked all stakeholders involved in the creation of more professional training modules for security members, and also stated that the Academy will continue to provide training and higher education with European standards for all law enforcement officials. Smakiqi on this occasion thanked the OSCE for organizing this workshop which is very important for the Academy.

Director Smakiqi said that the Academy has made progress in the realization of its tasks such as the Academy's institutional accreditation for five years, the three-year accreditation of the study program and the implementation of numerous trainings for public security officials.


"This year we have had some important issues, such as accrediting the Academy's institution for five years and the three-year accreditation of the study program and we are now at the end of the completion of the documents to apply for validation of professional programs", Smakiqi also stated that this is a common journey to be more close to the professional standards, that today already have the United States of America and Europe.

Meanwhile, Director of OSCE Department of Public Order and Safety Ake Roghe congratulated director Smakiqi for the work he has done so far, while evaluating that the Academy is an example of co-operation and dedication to work.

Roghe evaluated that the Academy is the most important institution in Kosovo, from where the trained officials who complete the training in Academy look after the security of every citizen in the country.

   

"Everything depends on how the security officers are trained and educated, this belongs to the Academy, the Academy is a very important point for that, your institution is extraordinary because if you fail, then all public security agencies fail, so that everything depends on the training you provide", Roghe stated, assessing that the Academy has done and is doing a very good job.

"You are doing a good job and of course you have to keep doing this good job", Roghe said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of Kosovo Police Dejan Jankovic, thanking the OSCE and ICITAP for support, was pleased to be part of the workshop on the development of the education and education field of public security officials. "It is good to support each other and to share our experiences of new plans, ideas and training programs. Regarding this workshop, the police are ready to contribute to this program and to cooperate further", said Jankovic

Likewise, ICITAP's Senior Advisor, Drita Perezic, assessed that the Academy is a very important institution for the country.


Perezić said that ICITAP will continue to support the Academy in the future as an institution for training and education of security officials in the country.


"ICITAP supports the Academy and will continue to support in the future with some other changes such as initiating the process of international accreditation of the Academy. Academy to be the first in the region that will have the highest international accreditation standard ", said Perezic

 

The workshop that support KAPS to develop a mentoring and internship program based on professional training programs of public safety agencies supported by the OSCE, will last three days.
