The OSCE donates 300 books for Kosovo Academy for Public Safety

Vushtrri, March 10, 2016- The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Kosovo, in continuation of donations and support, today donated 300 books to Kosovo Academy for Public Safety.

Director General of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, Mr. Ismail Smakiqi, hosted the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo Mrs. Paivi Nikander and Deputy Head of the German Embassy in Kosovo Mrs. Cristina Gehlsen. In the meeting were attended also Ake Roghe, Director of Department for Public Order and Security OSCE, Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police, Dejan Savic and Ritva Vahakovski Resident Adviser of Twinning Project.

The visit took place on the occasion of the delivery of three hundred books donated by the OSCE. Delivery of books was one of 4 activities funded by the German Embassy and implemented by the OSCE mission in Kosovo.

Within this project the Academy visited the German Police University in Münster and was the host of this University and in the October 2015 in Prishtina was held International Conference "The interconnection with networks and comparative approach to the education of the police".

Director Smakiqi thanked the OSCE Mission in Kosovo for the continued support they have given to the Academy’s capacity building and the contribution that they continue to provide for the training and education of the participants of public safety.

Receiving 300 books is very special and precious gift for us as the Academy and for students of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, "said Mr. Smakiqi.

On this occasion, Director Smakiqi also spoke about the start of the second project of Twinning Project which aims to support further education in public security in Kosovo.

"This project comes as a result of the successful completion of the first project of Twinning" “Improving education in the sectors of security and public order - IPA 2009 ", which has enabled accreditation of the study program at the Academy as well as the opening of the Faculty of Public Safety which offers higher education for officials of the Public Safety Agencies ", said the Director Smakiqi.

He said that, the Academy, due to the hard work of staff and support from its permanent partners of OSCE and ICITAP, is in a good way to realize its vision, “the Academy in 2020 will be recognized by its national and international stakeholders, as a primary institution for all levels of education in the sectors of public order and security ".

Whereas the Deputy Ambassador of the OSCE in Kosovo, Paivi Nikander, during her speech she was very happy that the Academy has achieved in the field of training of members of public safety. She said that she feels happy that today the OSCE donates to Academy the books and through which members of the security have the opportunity to gain knowledge in the relevant fields.

Also the Deputy Ambassador of German Embassy in Kosovo, Mrs. Cristina Gehlsen, congratulated the Academy for its achievements. "Before I come to the Academy I have heard very good words for your institution. Today, it my first visit to the Academy and I am very impressed from house order up to trainings and education that are developing for students'” said Gehlsen. She expressed readiness to assist and support the Academy further on.
