Third conference of Police Training of Balkan Countries is held

Vushtrri September 23, 2013 – Kosovo Academy for Public Safety (KAPS) and Kosovo Police organized third conference of Police Training of Balkan Countries (BALPEK), where participated representatives from Hungary, Montenegro, Macedonia, Turkey and Albania.

Discussed topic in this conference was “Contemporary Approach in education and training of police”.

Minister of Internal Affairs, Bajram Rexhepi said that regional cooperation in all fields, and especially in the field of police training, is very important for KAPS, in which case this cooperation continuously proved positive results.  

“With support of European Commission, Program of High Education in the Academy is in the final phase of establishment. We aim through education to increase professional quality in police trainings”, said Minister Rexhepi.

OSCE Chief of Mission in Kosovo, Jean-Claude Schlumberger said that the mission he leads was always involved in the field of police training and education.

“Police training and education is something in which OSCE was always involved as of the beginning. It has always been a very important aspect of our work. Without proper police training there cannot be rule and law enforcement.

Also there cannot be a trained police without good police training and without educational institutions”, said Schlumberger.

Kosovo Police General Director, Shpend Maxhuni, said that Kosovo Police within its long term strategy aims also to increase international police cooperation.

“Kosovo Police has its own interest to be involved in all regional and international mechanisms, to give its contribution in prevention and fighting of all forms of crime, especially organized crime”, said Maxhuni.

The General Director of Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, Ismail Smakiqi, said that in manner to increase professional skills and competencies in the field of public safety it is needed more knowledge than just skills through training.

“Rapid change of nature of crime, its spreading in global dimensions requires increase and respect of academic standards in broader geographic dimensions”, said Smakiqi.

This is third conference of BALPEK, while two first conferences were held in Nazil of Turkey.
