Opening of Faculty of Public Safety

Vushtrri, 15 October 2014 – The Faculty of Public Safety today started the first academic year 2014/2015 in which will attend 69 members of public safety in Bachelor study program in the field of security. Faculty of Public Safety, which is within the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety is accredited by the Accreditation Agency.
At the opening ceremony of the university participated: Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Izmi Zeka, General Director of the Kosovo Police, Shpend Maxhuni, Acting /  Chief Prosecutor of  State, Sylë Hoxha, General Director of the Academy, Ismail Smakiqi, leaders of Public Safety Agencies, and representatives of local and international institutions

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Izmi Zeka stated that the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, has gave exceptional contribution in capacity building initially of the Kosovo Police, then the Customs, Corrections Service, Emergency Management, Probation Service and Police Inspectorate.

“Ministry of Internal Affairs highly assessed activities of the Academy which with support of the European Union Office in Kosovo and after a tremendous commitment is opening Faculty of Public Safety, respectively the functioning of a four-year bachelor study programs, in public safety, designed in accordance with the Bologna system for higher education, "said Zeka.

While the General Director of the Kosovo Police, Shpend Maxhuni, has congratulated the Academy for so important achievement, as it is  the opening of the Faculty of Public Safety.

“Opening of this faculty was done in order to advance the professional work for the benefit of all citizens of Kosovo. The opening of this college is a new stage for the purpose of professional advancement, which will impact positively on the work of members of public safety, "stated Maxhunaj.

General Director of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, Ismail Smakiqi stated as the historic moment opening of the Faculty of Public Safety.

“Academy that from today begins in practical functioning of article 2, paragraph 1 of the Law on the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, which makes Academy the responsible institution for providing the training and higher education, and the development of capacities in the field of public safety "stated Smakiqi.

Director of KAPS Ismail Smakiqi, stated that the Academy is the only national institution of training and education, where more than 12 thousand employees in public safety agencies have completed basic training at the Academy for Public Safety.

He said that during 15 years at the Academy are marked enough achievements when now with opening of the faculty is being marked a major achievement. During his speech director Smakiqi mentioned some important facts about the Academy;
“Every year at least 5000 participants commit specialized and advanced training, at least 20% of these courses continue to be supported by international instructors, the academy each year is proving and wishes to be 'center of excellence' for the training of senior officers of law enforcement, it is also  involved in all associations of academies and colleges of law enforcement in Europe, United States, working closely with the community, in accordance with its vision, in order to maintain peace and build safety to citizens ", stated Smakiqi while praising local and international institutions for their contribution and support of the Academy. In front of the first year academic students 2014/2015 a speech held the dean of the Faculty of Public Safety, Nazmi Iballi. He said that the accredited study program contains the tradition of European civilization values in the field of security.
